What makes this piece special

The Sculptural Ichinotani Helmet

Broad projecting planes and sharp folds give the Ichinotani helmet its distinctive profile. A subdued silver-leaf finish emphasizes the changing light and shadow across this striking form.

Diamond Stitching on Leather

Orderly diamond-shaped stitching details the leather-covered cuirass. Muted color, the texture of the leather and horizontal lines come together in a surface designed to be appreciated at close range.

Layers of black, intricately laced shoulder guards

Six tiers of iyozane armor plates are closely laced with black cord to form the shoulder guards. The restrained palette draws attention to the twisted strands and overlapping tiers, lending weight and presence to this suit of armor modeled after Kuroda Nagamasa’s.
